Warm South Florida waters produce heavier than normal marine growth which accumulates on your vessel causing excess drag and leading to higher fuel costs, clogged thru-hull intakes and propeller vibrations. This is why an Underwater Cleaning Service is necessary.
Barnacle Busters offers a Regular Underwater Cleaning Service Schedule that includes cleaning the running gear, scrubbing the waterline and checking all zincs and thru-hulls. The boat bottom is cleaned only when needed with special attention paid to preserving and maintaining your bottom paint in the best way possible. Zincs are replaced when needed so that our regular customers never have to worry about electrolysis damage to their props, shafts and other metals.
If you are going on a long trip or need a special cleaning, Barnacle Busters will arrange to clean your boat the day before so your vessel will run at optimum performance without consuming excessive amounts of fuel.
Monthly Powerboat Underwater Cleaning Service
- Running Gear – Clean propellers, shafts, struts, trim tabs, rudders, through hulls, transducers, know logs, and inspect zincs.
- Waterline – clean from top of boot tripe down to hard chine and approximately two feet down where there is no chine.
- Hull – Clean all other underwater surface area when needed.
The running gear must be cleaned because it collects barnacles due to the bottom paint not adhering and the reaction of the metal to paint. Through hull fittings are cleared to prevent engines from overheating and intakes and outlets from becoming clogged with barnacles. The waterline is cleaned because it collects grass and heavy algae each month due to sunlight exposure. The rest of the hull usually does not collect much algae because of the lower amount of sunlight it receives. The small amount of algae that does collect usually clean itself off when the boat is moving 12 knots or more We will inspect the hull each time, and if it appears that is will not clean itself, fe will clean the hull as well.
Monthly Sailboat Diving Cleaning Service
- Running Gear – Clean propeller, shaft, strut, through hulls, know log, transducers, and inspect zincs.
- Hull – Clean entire hull from the top of the boot stripe to the bottom of the keel.
The running gear must be cleaned because it collects barnacles due to the bottom paint not adhering and the reaction of the metal to paint. Through hull fittings are cleared to prevent engines from overheating and intakes and outlets from becoming clogged with barnacles. Since most sailboats do not move fast enough to clean the algae off, the hull should be scrubbed each month.
